For the first time, Russia has deployed five submarines in the Mediterranean Sea, known as "black holes" and serving as carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles, TASS reports, citing a source in the shipbuilding industry.
"Currently, there are five Kalibr — PL cruise missile carrier submarines in the Russian Mediterranean Squadron: three of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) and two of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet)," the source said.
The source added that two submarines currently making the transition from the Baltic to the Pacific Fleet may be delayed as part of the Permanent Task Force of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to the agency, we are talking about non-nuclear submarines of the 636 Varshavyanka project.
In March, the commander of the electromechanical combat unit, Denis Bayrachny, told the Zvezda TV channel that the invisibility and noiselessness of the Russian submarine Veliky Novgorod of the 636 Varshavyanka project are achieved through the use of a special engine design.
