The general director of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said on the YouTube channel "Solovyov Live" that the new airport, which is being built at the Vostochny cosmodrome, will have unique runway capabilities.
He explained that the length at the first stages of construction will reach 3.25 kilometers and will eventually be 4.4 kilometers, which will allow receiving all types of aircraft, including reusable rocket blocks that can be returned.
"That is, any aircraft, and not only aircraft, but also returned missile blocks that can land on this strip in an airplane way... These are her unique requirements, " Rogozin said.
He added that the runway at the first stage of construction is planned to be operational in 2023. Cargo planes will also be able to land on it, which will bring heavy spacecraft launched by Angara rockets to the cosmodrome.
Earlier, Rogozin said that the launch of superheavy-class Angara missiles is planned to begin in 2026. Superheavy class missiles are characterized by increased payload capacity and are built on a modular principle, that is, they are assembled from the same type of universal modules. "In order to achieve a heavyweight class, the third stage is put with a hydrogen engine, "the head of Roscosmos said.
