The Russian Orion-E drone has been improved. The "classmate" of the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 received satellite communication, which increased the radius of application of the device. This is reported by TASS with reference to the General Director of JSC "Kronshtadt" Sergey Bogatikov.
The upgraded Orion-E UAV with a satellite communication system was presented at the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2021". According to Bogatikov, the modernization of Orion-E will allow receiving information from the device "anywhere in the world if necessary."
The satellite terminal allows not only to transmit data, but also to control the drone, Bogatikov added. The Orion-E is controlled via a radio channel at a range of up to 250 kilometers.
The export version of the Orion-E is offered in the reconnaissance version. UAVs for the Russian military can also perform strike functions. At the suspension points, the UAV can carry adjustable, guided and free-falling bombs, as well as guided missiles.
Earlier, the industrial director of the Rostec weapons complex, Bekhan Ozdoev, called the Russian Orion-E a "classmate" of the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drone. The representative of Rostec added that foreign customers were interested in the Russian development.
