Russia has created underwater drones designed to track enemy submarines. The devices are already being tested. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to an unnamed representative of the Central Design Bureau of Marine Equipment (CCB MT) "Rubin".
Robotic underwater platforms can use methods of finding targets that are not available to conventional submarines. Thus, small-sized unmanned vehicles are difficult to destroy due to their small size and maneuverability. Moreover, the destruction of an unmanned vehicle may be economically unprofitable due to the incomparability of the cost of the drone and the attacking ammunition, the representative of Rubin noted.
There are also large underwater drones that have a reserve of energy that allows them to carry powerful detection devices. According to the representative of the Central Design Bureau of MT Rubin, such devices are already being created and are being tested. In underwater combat, unmanned underwater vehicles can be used to search for and escort enemy submarines, the representative of Rubin added.
The Central Design Bureau "Rubin" has developed a submerged patrol ship "Guardian". The project of the vessel combining the advantages of a submarine and a surface ship was presented in April. The developers believe that their project will be of interest to foreign customers.
