During the exercises of front-line aviation near Voronezh, an episode was worked out with the relocation of Su-34 bombers to an operational airfield equipped directly on the federal highway E-38 Kursk-Saratov.
A straight and wide section of the highway was blocked for traffic, aeronautical signs were placed on the roadsides. The recreation area for truckers turned into an airplane parking lot, a field control room and a bomber refueling system were deployed nearby.
According to the legend of the exercises, the base airfield of the aviation regiment was subjected to a massive missile attack, but the planes managed to get into the air and fly to a new place. One by one, An-26 and Il-76 transport vehicles with additional ammunition and ground airfield equipment began to arrive there.
From the air, the field airfield was covered by Mi-8 and Mi-35 helicopters. They protected transport planes during landing, using the experience of modern local conflicts, the press service of the ZVO noted. The main task of the training was to continuously provide the bombers with everything necessary to complete the tasks.
