The station was built as part of the import substitution strategy to perform a full cycle of repair of aircraft engines of this type. The economic effect of the new facility is more than 8 million rubles from each repaired engine.
The station provides a full cycle of testing of aircraft engines of the D-36 family, which are used on AN-72, AN-74, Be-200 and other aircraft, including the stages of preservation and packaging. The station with automated production process control was designed and built by JSC "Kazan Giproniiaviaprom named after B. I. Tikhomirov" in 2020. The design was carried out with the expectation of further modernization and testing of more powerful engines, so it is possible to install an engine with a thrust of up to 20 tons. In the first half of 2021, work was carried out on the certification, commissioning and trial operation of the facility.

"Until 2018, we tested the engines repaired by us at other, including third-party enterprises. In order to eliminate time and material costs, the UEC decided to ensure the commissioning of its own D-36 aircraft engine testing station. In April and May 2021, as part of the pilot operation, we conducted a full cycle of tests of four engines. Today, the station is fully ready for operation," said Andrey Krylov, Deputy General Director and Managing Director of AARZ.

The economic effect of using the D-36 aircraft engine testing station is more than 8 million rubles from each repaired engine. According to the long-term plans of the AARZ, for the period up to 2024, the volume of repairs of the D-36 will amount to 10 — 11 units per year. Thus, when performing a full cycle of engine repairs on its own production facilities, this investment project pays off in 3.5 years-by mid-2024, which is a good indicator for an industrial enterprise. And if we take into account the universal nature of the station, where it is technically possible to test more powerful, but similar in design engines, the economic effect increases even more.
