A station has been opened in Russia for testing Ukrainian D-36 aircraft engines developed by the Zaporozhye Machine-Building Design Bureau Progress named after Academician A. G. Ivchenko. The station, created as part of import substitution, will allow performing a full cycle of repair of engines of this type. This is stated on the official website of the Rostec state Corporation.
The station was installed at the Aramil Aviation Repair Plant (AARZ) United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) in the city of Aramil, Sverdlovsk region. After the installation of the new unit, the UAC enterprises will begin to repair the engines of the D-36 family in Russia. This will save more than eight million rubles on the repair of each engine that had to be tested at third-party enterprises.
The station, designed by specialists of JSC "Kazan GiproNIIaviaprom named after B. I. Tikhomirov", allows repairing existing and promising engines of the D-36 type. Its design includes the modernization potential for testing engines with a thrust of up to 20 tons.
The AARZ believes that until 2024, the volume of repairs of D-36 engines will amount to 10-11 units per year. This will allow the station project to be recouped in three and a half years. It will also be possible to test other engines of similar design at the station, which will increase the economic effect.
The D-36 engine was developed at the Progress ZMKB in the 1970s, and in 1977 mass production began at the Motor Sich enterprise. Modifications of the D-36 are installed on the An-72, An-74, and Be-200 aircraft.
