Russia is rapidly developing its navy, and recently there has been a special activity in this area. Thus, the country sends a signal of its determination to protect its interests in the world's oceans in the presence of serious threats from the West, the author of the Chinese edition of Xinhua believes.
Since 2014, NATO forces, taking advantage of their dominant position in the Atlantic region, have begun to conduct naval exercises more often near Russian territorial waters and conduct reconnaissance in the Mediterranean and Black Seas. This puts pressure on the Russian Federation. The latter in response adopted the "maritime doctrine", which provides for the support of the presence in the Atlantic, the Baltic, as well as on the Black, Azov and Mediterranean seas. The document also defines the tasks of the five fleets.
- Russia is taking serious steps to accelerate the development of the navy. Even with the global economic downturn due to the coronavirus pandemic, the country continues to build new ships, wanting to bring the fleet to a new level, "the translation of the material published by InoSMI notes.
Only in recent months, literally one by one, new ships have appeared in Russia. In early May, the Kazan multipurpose nuclear submarine of the Yasen-M project, which can carry hypersonic Zircon missiles, was put into service. A month later, another submarine of this type, the Novosibirsk, went to sea for testing. On May 31, the strategic submarine "Prince Oleg" of the Borey project, capable of launching Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles from under water, was also handed over for testing. On June 25, the strategic nuclear submarine Belgorod, which is the carrier of the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicles, began testing. Recently, the tests of the Magadan diesel-electric submarine of the Varshavyanka project, carrying Kalibr-PL cruise missiles, were completed.
According to plans, in the next decade, the Russian Navy will receive more than a dozen new underwater and surface ships of various types. In addition, the vessels already in service will be modernized.
In addition, Russia regularly conducts naval exercises, responding to threats to security at sea. Combat vessels of various classes, equipped with innovative weapons, and a large number of aircraft take part in them.
- The development plans of the Russian Navy can be called ambitious and specific. We can say that the Russian Navy continues to increase its power, not only repulsing the West, but also demonstrating a firm determination to revive. Although there are problems on the path of revival that need to be overcome, the prospect of Russia's return to the status of a maritime power deserves attention, " the author summarizes.
