The Russian Navy will receive three nuclear submarines at once this year, a source in the shipbuilding industry said. On the air of Sputnik radio, captain of the 1st rank Igor Kurdin stressed that the Russian navy is restoring the necessary and sufficient number of nuclear submarines.

The Russian navy will receive three nuclear submarines by the end of 2021.

As a source in the shipbuilding industry told RIA Novosti, the Prince Oleg (Project 955A, Borey-A), Novosibirsk (project 885M, Yasen-M), as well as the Poseidon torpedo carrier of the Belgorod submarine will take up combat duty.

It is assumed that the "Prince Oleg" will be handed over to the fleet in September, and the "Novosibirsk" will be handed over in the last month of the year.

Today, Russia operates four submarines of the project 955 "Borey" /955A "Borey-A", several more submarines of this type are at various stages of construction. Each of them has 16 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles in its arsenal.

On the air of Sputnik radio, the chairman of the Club of Submariners and Navy Veterans in St. Petersburg, captain of the 1st rank Igor Kurdin noted that the Borey project has a significant modernization reserve.

"I would especially like to note the Knyaz Oleg submarine-a strategic missile submarine, the group is part of the Russian strategic nuclear forces. The distribution of these ships by fleet is the prerogative of the Supreme High Command. All these ships, on the one hand, are serial, and on the other hand, they are already modernized ships. That is, the idea of the general designer Igor Leonidovich Baranov – to create a so –called modernization reserve during the design-allows, having built the lead ship, to count on the fact that the next ships in this series will have different weapons and radio equipment. That is, each ship becomes better than the previous one, " Igor Kurdin said.

He noted that the Russian fleet is being updated at a fairly rapid pace.

"Now there is no need to build such a large number of submarines, as during the Cold War. As they say, the necessary, but sufficient number of nuclear-powered submarines is being restored in our country. We still have old projects in service – until the new ones completely replace them. Therefore, a balanced submarine fleet is already present. And it is a great achievement that we have such submarines, " Igor Kurdin stressed.
