On Friday, at a meeting with employees of the Krasmash enterprise in Krasnoyarsk, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told how technological progress has affected the quality of the Russian Armed Forces.
"Attack drones have appeared. There are many of them-different. There are drones that work not at a distance of 200-300 kilometers, but at thousands of kilometers. They are equipped with weapons operating at a distance of 500 kilometers, there are more, " the minister recalled.
Another important factor that significantly affects the conduct of military operations, he called robotic equipment. "We have created a robotics center - because if there were combat robots, which 10 years ago could only be seen in movies, and then - in a fantastic one. And today this is already a reality, " Shoigu said.
He stressed that the emergence of new types of weapons required qualified specialists for their operation and maintenance and, accordingly, a serious adjustment of the curricula of military universities. "We started training specialists in unmanned aviation five years ago," the Defense Minister recalled. - During this time, drones have become a serious force, a very big threat to the enemy. And, of course, there is a need for other knowledge, new specialists-both for maintenance, repair, and for working on this equipment, " Shoigu said.
He said that more than 300 new programs have been prepared for training specialists in working with robotics. Other changes and additions have been made to the educational programs. "And this applies to absolutely all professions that are in the Armed Forces," the minister stressed.
According to him, a thorough analysis of what is happening in various spheres helps to make proactive decisions. "We are very closely watching the global trends in the development of not just science and education. We are watching the development of technologies. For what is being used and done in the armies of other countries today. And, of course, taking into account the large-scale and very rapid development of digitalization, programs related to the emergence of artificial intelligence, we are making adjustments to our training programs, training new specialists," Shoigu said.
