Moscow. July 27. INTERFAX-More than 8 thousand servicemen are taking part in special exercises of the engineering troops, which are held in preparation for the joint strategic exercise "West-2021", the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.
"The main objectives of the exercises are to check the readiness of engineering troops with the testing of new ways to perform tasks for their intended purpose, as well as to continue the implementation of the experience acquired in the Syrian Arab Republic in the training programs of engineering units," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The Defense Ministry noted that the exercises will last until July 30 and will be held at the ranges of 12 ranges of the Western Military District in the Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Kaliningrad, Leningrad, Voronezh and Moscow regions. Also, part of the exercises will be held on the Oka River section.
According to the ministry, the exercises started today and more than 8 thousand servicemen and about 1,500 military equipment will be involved in them.
"Military engineers will use robotic mine clearance systems "Uran-6" and fire extinguishing systems "Uran-14", as well as the latest remote mining systems, the universal minelayer UMZ-K, water extraction and purification installations, " the ministry reports.
