The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and the Kazan Helicopter Plant signed a contract for the supply of nine helicopters. The agreement was signed today within the framework of the XV International Aviation and Space Salon "MAKS-2021".
They will be built in a search and rescue modification for flights in the Arctic, with the possibility of landing on icebreakers. These helicopters will be used to form aviation units of the future Arctic integrated emergency rescue center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the ports of Sabetta, Dixon, Tiksi, Pevek and Anadyr along the entire Arctic coast.
"To create a safe zone in the Arctic, we need helicopters with increased flight performance characteristics that will be able to operate in extreme climatic conditions with an increased flight range, taking into account the expanses of the Far North. These are the first nine helicopters that will be delivered to provide Arctic rescue centers. The aviation department will allow performing tasks to ensure the safety of the Northern Sea Route as a whole," the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations quotes the words of Deputy Minister Viktor Yatsutsenko, said by him immediately after the conclusion of the contract.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations will receive nine Mi-38 PS helicopters within three years. These vehicles will be able to provide a high range of rescue missions.
The Mi-38PS is capable of flying with a crew and rescuers at a distance of up to 750 kilometers, evacuating people if necessary and returning to the place of deployment. To do this, the helicopter will be equipped with additional fuel tanks, and the maximum take-off weight of the machine will be increased.
