Defender, which violated the borders of Russia near the Crimea in June, was the only one operating among the five Type 45 destroyers that are in service with the Royal Navy (Navy) of the United Kingdom, [...] Defense News reports, referring to the statement of the British Minister for Defense Procurement Jeremy Queen.
According to him, currently the remaining four Type 45 ships are at various stages of maintenance or modernization. So, in early July, Diamond encountered technical problems while escorting an aircraft carrier strike group in the Indo-Pacific region, while Daring, Duncan and Dragon are undergoing modernization.
So far, the only active Type 45 destroyer in the Royal Navy is Defender, which currently accompanies the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth in a group with American and Dutch warships.
Defense News admits that Diamond's problems are related to its power plant, which could break down while being in climatic conditions with high temperatures.
In July, Rostec published on Twitter an image of a part of the fuselage of a promising Russian Su-75 fighter, which reflects a warship resembling the British Defender Type 45 destroyer.
