MOSCOW, July 18. /TASS/. State tests of the latest hypersonic missile "Zircon" from a surface carrier will begin in August 2021. This was reported to TASS by a source in the military-industrial complex.
"The first launch of the Zircon within the framework of state tests from the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov of the Northern Fleet is planned to be carried out in the first half of August. In the second half of August, flight and design tests of the Zircon from the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine will begin, " he said, specifying that earlier it was about May-June in the first case.
As the source noted, Severodvinsk will perform the first test launch of the Zircon from a surface position, but in both cases it is expected to hit surface targets. According to another TASS source, a total of four launches will be carried out from Admiral Gorshkov as part of the state tests of the Zircon. The NGO of Mechanical Engineering (part of the Tactical Missile Weapons Corporation), where they developed and produced "Zircons", did not comment on this information.
Earlier, a source told TASS that the flight and design tests of the hypersonic missile "Zircon" from the surface carrier - the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" - have been successfully completed. The missile test program in 2020 was successfully and fully implemented, three launches were carried out from the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, two for sea targets, one for land targets. The third launch of the Zircon in 2020 was carried out on December 9.
On July 10, a TASS source reported that the first regular carrier of these hypersonic missiles will be the frigate of the project 22350 "Admiral Golovko".
