Moscow. July 16. INTERFAX-Submariners of the Northern Fleet have completed a two-week exercise on weapons testing in the deep-water areas of the Barents and Norwegian Seas, the press service of the fleet reported.
"The submariners of the Northern Fleet have successfully completed a special exercise to test the systems and weapons of submarines in the deep-water areas of the Barents and Norwegian Seas," the press service reported.
"In the announced area of deep-sea tests of the Northern Fleet in the Norwegian Sea, the presence of warships of the naval forces of NATO countries was recorded, up to 10 aircraft of the alliance's base patrol aviation were in the air every day," the report says.
According to the press service, the crews of nuclear submarines took part in the exercise. They worked out tasks at depths that are the limit for most modern submarines.
According to her, the search and rescue support of the exercise was organized by the forces of the emergency rescue detachment of the Northern Fleet as part of the rescue vessel "Georgy Titov" and the rescue tug "Nikolai Chiker".
On July 2, the press service announced the holding of the exercise. According to her, several submarines, including the fourth generation, took part in it. The exercise took place at a depth of more than 500 meters.
A series of nuclear-powered submarines of the fourth generation of the Borey and Borey-A project, armed with Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, will become the basis of naval strategic nuclear forces for the coming decades, the Russian military said.
The fourth generation also includes multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the Yasen-M project 885M-carriers of Onyx and/or Kalibr cruise missiles. It was reported about plans to arm them with hypersonic missiles "Zircon" (a new Russian hypersonic missile that is being tested, the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation).
