In Ukraine, in parallel with the modernization of the T-64 under the "Crab" program, which is engaged in " Kharkiv Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering named after Morozov" (KKBM), work is also underway on the remotorization of such tanks.

According to the Defense Express portal, at a repair facility located in the same city, one of the T-64BM2 recently received a new engine and transmission compartment (MTO) with a 1000-horsepower 6TD-1 diesel engine.
The old 5TD, even in the accelerated version with a capacity of 850 hp, can no longer provide the necessary mobility characteristics of the latest modifications weighing 45,000 kg.
However, it turned out that the new MTO has a higher roof and this made it difficult for the normal rotation of the tower. Therefore, it had to be raised a few centimeters, substituting a special ring for it. To maintain the necessary level of protection, we used a barbet-an additional reservation on the hull.
It is also claimed that this "sixty-fourth" received a night thermal imaging sight, the possibility of using Kombat guided missiles appeared, the Basalt information and control system was introduced, and more advanced communication means were introduced. The dynamic protection "Knife"is mounted.
However, so far this T-64BM2 exists in a single copy, and it is unknown when others will be made. It was planned that they would be handed over by the beginning of the parade rehearsals in Kiev, but, apparently, these deadlines will be disrupted.
