The light floating tank "Octopus-SDM1" has successfully passed the first stage of state tests in the Black Sea.

According to the Rostec state Corporation, the car showed "high water-navigable qualities" and demonstrated the possibility of transportation by large landing ships.

The second stage of testing should begin in the near future. It is necessary to demonstrate the work of the 125-mm self-propelled anti-tank gun 2S25, the effectiveness of its use in calm conditions, as well as when the sea is up to three points.

The entire cycle of state tests is planned to be completed in early 2022.

On the air of Sputnik radio, a military expert, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin called the main advantage of the "Octopus".

"This is certainly a unique tank, a powerful weapon. It has a barrel of 125 millimeters, in this sense it does not differ from the main tank T-72, T-80 or T-90. But this is a light tank, it is designed for paratroopers – so that it can be used when landing from the air and on the ground. And this is its main advantage. Since it is lighter, it has slightly less armor protection. But for a rapid amphibious combat, this is not the main drawback. There are similar tanks in the world, but no one has such a powerful one, with such a barrel, " Viktor Litovkin said.
