The light floating tank "Octopus-SDM1" was tested in the Black Sea.

This is the first stage of testing the machine in marine conditions, the Rostec state Corporation reported. The tank confirmed the possibility of transportation by large landing ships, as well as its own high water-carrying qualities.

In the near future, the second stage will take place, during which the work of the 125-mm 2S25 cannon will be tested and evaluated in calm conditions and with sea waves up to three points.

Recall that the latest Russian light tank is not inferior to the T-80, T-90 in terms of firepower, and in terms of mobility on land and water it is on a par with the BMD-4M.

- The machine is capable of solving complex tactical tasks, in particular, reconnaissance, work as part of raid or advanced detachments, conducting maneuverable defense, forcing water obstacles, amphibious operations, territory control. First of all, the Octopus is being created for the Russian Airborne Troops, but I am sure it will also interest foreign customers, " said Bekhan Ozdoev, industrial director of the Rostec cluster of weapons, ammunition and special chemicals.

In the autumn, the car will be tested in cold conditions, the tank has proven its performance in high temperatures during operation in the subtropics. Running tests of the "Octopus" are also continuing, it must pass 8 thousand kilometers - this is the full volume of the warranty mileage. Each stage of the state tests includes shooting. The entire testing cycle of the new product is planned to be completed in early 2022.

"Sprut-SDM1" was created on the basis of the airborne self-propelled anti-tank gun "Sprut-SD". The vehicle is equipped with a 125-mm gun, which can use armor-piercing-sub-caliber, cumulative, high-explosive fragmentation shells, as well as ammunition with remote detonation. The range of hitting the target reaches 5 kilometers. The power plant allows you to accelerate a tank with a crew of three people up to 70 kilometers per hour on land and up to 10 kilometers per hour on water.

According to the developers, the "Octopus-SDM1" is the only light floating tank of its kind in the world.
