During the military operation in Syria, several hundred types of various weapons were tested in combat conditions. This was announced on Wednesday, July 14, by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
"We have tested more than 320 types of various weapons, including, by the way, your helicopters," he said at a meeting with the staff of the Rostvertol company. Developing this thesis, the minister said that the rotorcraft produced by the enterprise as a result of the Syrian campaign have undergone serious changes - "at least in terms of weapons". Shoigu added that one of the helicopters that he looked at in Rosvertol is the result of an operation in Syria.
The Minister also spoke about the development of aviation weapons of destruction. In order to protect equipment and helicopters in particular, it is necessary, according to his assessment, weapons that operate at a distance greater than air defense systems or portable anti-aircraft missile systems. "Today we have such weapons. And this is thanks to the operation in Syria, thanks to you, those who are engaged in this," Shoigu said.
The Defense minister called the Rostov enterprise "excellent", "fulfilling a serious, large volume of the state defense order", providing the Defense Ministry with a large, wide range of helicopters. "One of the largest centers of aircraft construction. If we talk about helicopters, it is probably the largest, " Shoigu said of Rosvertol.
And Rostvertol, in his opinion, " this is the history of the country, this is the history of our aviation, this is the history of helicopters, which played a huge role in the development of the largest oil and gas fields, forest extraction, the development of the North. Which played a huge role in the implementation of those giant projects that were in the Soviet era." Shoigu hopes that there will be such projects now.
