The Turkish supersonic anti-radar missile Akbaba ("Vulture") will replace the American AGM-88 High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM, "Harm"), Defense News reports, citing a source.
The publication notes that the Akbaba missile has already been developed, but the data on it is classified — there is no relevant information on the website of the weapons manufacturer, the Roketsan company.
According to the source, the new ammunition should replace about a hundred AGM-88 HARM missiles manufactured by the American company Raytheon. Initially, Akbaba is planned to be used on F-16C/D Fighting Falcon fighters, and in the future - on the TF-X aircraft.
In September 2020, the publication reported that Ukraine and Turkey are seeking to deepen their military-technical cooperation, possibly under the Turkish Fighter X (TF-X) fighter program, which was the subject of negotiations held in Ankara at the end of August of the same year.
In July 2019, Zvezda wrote that the TF-X could pose a danger to Russia, since Ankara plans to receive 250 such aircraft, while Moscow plans to purchase only 76 Su-57 fighters.
