The Polish military decided to adopt the third type of main battle tanks - Abrams of American production.
As the publication reports Gazeta.pl, negotiations are currently underway for the supply of two and a half hundred units. The transaction amount will be from 2.9 to 5.5 billion dollars.
This equipment will join the former German Leopard 2 already available in the troops, which were produced under the Soviet license T-72M1 and their local modernization PT-91.
The tanks will be in the most advanced version - with the Trophy active protection complex developed in Israel.
M1A2 SEPv3 will equip four battalions, ten more will be used for training purposes.
Together with them, it is planned to purchase engineering vehicles, including bridge-laying machines made on their basis, as well as training simulators, various ammunition, ammunition, spare parts, etc.
As it is rightly noted in the publication, the use of an absolutely new type of machines will significantly complicate their operation. For example, Americans do not use the metric system, they use inches, feet and gallons. Instead of the classic diesel engine, a complex and capricious gas turbine is used, which consumes more expensive fuel.
Experts are sure that the purchase of M1 Abrams will inevitably lead to the complete destruction of Polish enterprises involved in the production of tanks, since the Americans are not going to transfer technologies and, at best, will only create a repair plant.
