The Russian Navy will receive a "mini-cruiser missile carrier". Yesterday, on July 6, the Izvestia newspaper reported that the Ministry of Defense agreed on a plan for the modernization of the Admiral Chabanenko BOD under a project similar to the one for which the Marshal Shaposhnikov BOD was updated.
The large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Chabanenko "in the course of modernization should receive launchers of Kalibr cruise missiles and hypersonic Zircon missiles, as well as a missile and torpedo system capable of destroying submarines at a distance of tens of kilometers. After the work carried out, the ship will be reclassified into a frigate, although it will not lag too far behind the cruisers in terms of displacement and combat capabilities.

In 2014, the ship "Admiral Chabanenko" was sent for repair and since that time has been at a ship repair plant in the Murmansk region. According to Izvestia, the Ministry of Defense has agreed on a plan for the modernization of the Admiral Chabanenko BOD, and now there is an assessment of the terms that will be required to complete all the work.
The Admiral Chabanenko is the only ship built according to project 1155.1. It was laid down at the Yantar plant in Kaliningrad in 1989, launched in 1992 and accepted into the Russian fleet in 1999.
