Moscow. July 2. INTERFAX-A specialized formation of radiation, chemical and biological protection (RCBZ) is planned to be created in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the press service of the CSTO Joint Staff reported on Friday.
"The joint formation is planned to be deployed on the territory of one of the CSTO member states in order to ensure the protection of the Organization's power potential and create safe medical and biological conditions for its deployment and use, to ensure a collective response or in the event of a large - scale and rapid spread of dangerous infectious diseases," the message says.
Head of the Department of Planning the use of Troops (Collective Forces) CSTO-Deputy head of the center for planning the use and training of Troops (Collective Forces) CSTO Lieutenant General Anatoly Yakovlev notes that against the background of the negative consequences of the pandemic associated with the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection, "the need to consolidate the efforts of states in countering a new global threat has become more acute than ever."
He noted that "in this regard, it is becoming necessary to have a potential in the Organization that is able to respond quickly and effectively to such threats," the press service quotes Yakovlev.
According to her, the Joint Headquarters of the CSTO held consultations of representatives of the defense departments of the CSTO member states "on the issue of creating a joint formation of the CSTO and medical support for the CSTO". "The event is aimed at developing common approaches to the creation of a new joint formation in the Organization and its regulatory legal consolidation," the report says.
The meeting, chaired by Yakovlev, was attended by representatives of the defense departments of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan via videoconference.
