The Russian T-72B3 tank with an active protection complex (KAZ) was shown in the TV military information program "Sentry" on the First Channel of Russian television. Most of the issue was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the 38th Research and Testing Institute of Armored Weapons and Equipment.
The host of the program, Alexey Rafaenko, was present at this secret facility at the moment when the modernized combat vehicle was undergoing a test for the water resistance of the installed equipment. To do this ,the "seventy-second" was immersed in a pond up to the roof of the tower.
Then the footage of the tank firing from a hand-held anti-tank RPG grenade launcher was shown. The radar station detected the threat in time, which was neutralized in a fraction of seconds by a special striking element.
According to many military experts, KAZ is currently becoming an indispensable attribute of modern armored vehicles in an increasing number of states. For example, the Israeli Trophy complex, in addition to the Merkava tank, is already used on the American M1A2 SEPv2 Abrams, they are also planned to be installed on the German Leopard-2A7 and British Challenger 3.
Work in this direction is also being carried out in Turkey, China, South Korea and Japan.
The domestic defense industry has traditionally been a leader in the creation of KAZ, it was here that the T-55AD tank with the Drozd system was adopted in the early 80s. Then there were T2A2 for the T-62, Drozd-2, various versions of the Arena complex for the T-80, T-72 and BMP-3.
Judging by the latest data, not only the promising Armata, Kurganets-25, and Boomerang, but also the tanks already available in the troops, will now receive active protection.
