The British destroyer Defender should not have entered Russian territorial waters, and the military sailors of the United Kingdom should stay away from the coast of Crimea. This opinion was expressed by readers of the German publication Der Spiegel.
In the comments under the article about the incident, it is noted that such provocations "have been an integral part of the game for several decades." One of the readers cited the example of flights of British Air Force aircraft in the area of the Sea of Azov. Another noted that there is a difference between flying in international airspace and intentionally crossing borders.
Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that the Black Sea Fleet of the Navy, together with the border service of the FSB of Russia, stopped the destroyer URO Defender of the British Navy, which violated the state border.
Despite warnings from Russia, Defender did not turn off course. In this regard, the border patrol ship carried out a warning fire, and the Russian Su-24M aircraft used four high-explosive fragmentation bombs to stop the actions of the vessel.
The Russian Defense Ministry regarded the incident as a gross violation of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and called on the British side to conduct a thorough investigation of the actions of the Defender crew.
