MOSCOW, June 24-RIA Novosti. Russian long-range Tu-22M3 bombers as part of the exercises of the ship group of the Pacific Fleet (TOF) in the Pacific Ocean have worked out the destruction of aircraft carriers of a conditional enemy, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Thursday.
In the central part of the Pacific Ocean, in the area of 2.5 thousand miles (about 4.6 thousand kilometers) southeast of the Kuril Islands, from June 7 to 24, maneuvers were held with the participation of more than 20 ships, submarines and support vessels of the Pacific Fleet, as well as more than 20 helicopters and aircraft of the naval aviation of the fleet and the VKS.
"As part of the exercise, long-range Tu - 22M3 bombers, taking off from an airfield in Kamchatka, worked out tasks for patrolling and striking an aircraft carrier strike group of a conditional enemy," the ministry said.
At present, the Ministry of Defense clarified, the main stage of the exercises of the Pacific Fleet in the Pacific Ocean has been completed, the forces involved have begun to curtail.
The maneuvers took place from 7 to 24 June under the general leadership of the commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Sergei Avakyants.
