New generation heat traps guarantee protection against the most "smart" missiles with infrared homing heads, they are presented for the first time at the MILEX 2021 exhibition in Minsk

Technodinamika Holding has created a new cartridge-trap L376-2 "Yagel" for the onboard defense complex of military aviation. The product is twice as effective in protecting aircraft from missiles with an optical guidance system, primarily those that are guided by infrared radiation. The development was first shown at the International Exhibition of Weapons and Military Equipment MILEX 2021, held in the capital of the Republic of Belarus, as reported by the press service of the Rostec State Corporation, which includes the holding.

The key feature of the new product is the protection of the aircraft from missiles with kinematic target selection. Such missiles are able to recognize traditional trap cartridges that lag behind the aircraft due to aerodynamic drag. They remember the target, catch up with it and destroy it.

When a threat is detected, the aircraft shoots off "Yagel" trap cartridges, which fly not to the sides, but in the direction of movement of the aircraft. Thanks to this trajectory, it is possible to deceive the most" smart " enemy missile at the final stage of guidance. The pilot can release traps one at a time or fire the entire ammunition in one salvo.

"New trap cartridges in combination with advanced electronic warfare and tactical techniques can significantly reduce the probability of hitting combat aircraft with both anti-aircraft and aviation missiles with an optical guidance system equipped with kinematic target selection. The product is twice as superior to foreign analogues in terms of operating time, radiation strength and the degree of protection of the aircraft. The cartridge is used at altitudes up to 20,000 meters, at speeds up to 1500 km / h. A number of foreign partners have already shown interest in the development," the Rostec arms cluster said.

It is reported that the cartridge is designed in a caliber of 50 mm and can be used as part of various protective complexes.
