In the fire on the submarine AC-31 in 2019, 14 sailors were killed
ST. PETERSBURG, June 22. /TASS/. The Malachite Design Bureau has developed a technical project for the modernization of the AS-31 project 1083 nuclear submarine habitable vehicle (unofficially called Losharik), which killed 14 sailors in a fire in 2019. This is stated in the company's annual report.
"The technical project for the modernization of order No. 210 was completed in an extremely short time," the report says.
In the documents of the Malachite Design Bureau for 2017, the specified order was assigned to project 1083.
The fire on the submarine AC-31 occurred on July 1, 2019. Among the causes of the disaster, the media called an explosion and a fire of a lithium battery. The submarine's reactor was not damaged in the fire. In November 2019, the submarine was delivered to the"Zvezdochka" CA.
The project number and tactical and technical characteristics of the AC-31 are not officially disclosed, it is only known that it does not carry weapons and can dive to great depths. Because of the specific shape of the hull - several titanium spheres connected to each other - it was nicknamed "Losharik".
