In the Pacific Ocean, the crews of ships of the Pacific Fleet, along with planes and helicopters, worked out a number of tasks to repel an air attack and conducted training of air defense forces as part of the exercises that are currently taking place, TASS reports, citing information from the Defense Ministry.
During these trainings, the reliability of the air defense of the ship detachments was checked. In addition, the warships practiced the skills of searching for submarines of a conditional enemy. For this purpose, the ship's sonar equipment and deck-based anti-submarine helicopters Ka-27PL, based on the frigate "Marshal Shaposhnikov", the BPC "Admiral Panteleev" and three corvettes of the Pacific Fleet, were used.
The start of large-scale exercises in the Pacific Ocean became known on June 10. They involve 20 surface ships, about 20 aircraft and helicopters, submarines and support vessels. Similar-scale maneuvers have not been conducted since Soviet times.
