The ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet on Thursday repelled a massive air attack as part of a bilateral tactical exercise of diverse forces to protect Russia's Arctic borders from threats from sea directions. They hit eight cruise missiles.
This was reported by the press service of the Northern Fleet. The exercise took place in several stages. At the first stage, the crews were escorted by high-speed air targets heading for the ship's strike group. The group involved the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Peter the Great" and the missile cruiser "Marshal Ustinov". The enemy targets were the front-line Su-24 bombers.
At the second stage, the calculations of the missile cruisers had to hit the cruise missiles going to the ships, using combat artillery and anti-aircraft weapons. Simulators of air targets were small-sized solid-fuel missiles "Saman". In total, eight target missiles were fired in the direction of the ship's group. They were successfully hit by the crews of missile cruisers using the AK-130 and AK-630 artillery systems and the Dagger and Osa-MA anti-aircraft missile systems. They also destroyed the simulated glowing aerial bomb delivered by the IL-38 anti-submarine aircraft.
More than 20 warships and submarines, about ten planes and helicopters are taking part in the exercises of the Northern Fleet.
