A TASS source in the military-industrial complex indicated that the plans may change
MOSCOW, May 25. /TASS/. The nuclear-powered strategic missile cruiser "Prince Oleg" of project 955A (code "Borey-A") will perform the first test launch at sea in early June. This was reported to TASS by a source in the military-industrial complex.
"According to the plans for today, the Prince Oleg will be tested at sea for the first time in early June," he said, adding that the plans may change.
The press service of Sevmash (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), where the submarines of this project are being built, did not comment on the source's information.
According to previous plans, it was assumed that the first serial missile carrier of the project 955A "Prince Oleg" was to be part of the fleet by the Day of the Navy (Navy) of the Russian Federation, which this year will be celebrated on July 25.
The TASS source suggested that this event will not happen within the specified time frame, since the submarine needs to conduct a program of factory sea trials and state tests, and, in particular, to perform a combat training launch of the Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile from the Barents Sea from an underwater position at the target at the Kura test site in Kamchatka.
Currently, the Russian Navy has four Project 955/955A missile carriers in service. In addition to the "Prince Oleg", three more boats of the project 955A are at the "Sevmash" in different stages of construction. Each of the Project 955/955A boats carries 16 Bulava ICBMs. Earlier, in an interview with the newspaper "Red Star", the commander-in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, said that the Russian Navy will receive a strategic missile submarine of the Borey - A project "Prince Oleg" by the end of 2021.
