TSAMTO, May 21. According to information published by the Taiwanese media, the Taiwan Coast Guard Command (CGA) has accepted a new 4,000-ton patrol ship built by the Taiwanese shipbuilding company CSBC Corporation.

The ship, named (CG-5001) "Chiayi" (Chiayi), was handed over during a ceremony held in Kaohsiung (in southern Taiwan) in the presence of the country's President Tsai Ing-wen.

According to the president, the delivery of the Jiayi ,which has become the largest ship in the Coast Guard, will significantly increase its ability to perform patrol tasks, ensure the safety and protection of the island's territorial waters and conduct search and rescue operations.

Tsai Ing-wen noted that in accordance with the new policy of her administration, the Chiayi became one of the first Coast Guard ships to have the word "Taiwan" on its side, which should distinguish it from Chinese ships and demonstrate to the world Taiwan's determination to protect its territorial waters. Previously, the hulls of most ships bore the inscription "Coast Guard of the Republic of China" (ROC Coast Guard).

As reported by TSAMTO, the launch of the Jiayi (CG-5001) took place on June 2, 2020. The length of the ship is 125 m, width-16.5 m, displacement-about 4000 tons, cruising range-10 thousand nautical miles, maximum speed-24 knots. The set of weapons includes a launcher with 70-mm missiles, two 20-mm artillery pieces and three water cannons with a range of 120 m. The ship is equipped with a helipad and a hangar to accommodate the UH-60 search and rescue helicopters of the country's Navy. The ship is equipped with an operating room, a negative-pressure isolation unit, and an X-ray room to expand its ability to rescue victims.

According to Su Tzu-yun, a senior analyst at the Institute for National Defense and Security Studies, the design of the 4,000-ton ships is based on the design of the US Coast Guard's Legend-class patrol ship. The Jiayi is the lead of four 4,000-ton Coast Guard patrol ships to be built by CSBC as part of a $ 11.74 billion program. tyv. ($392 million). The christening ceremony of the second ship in the series, Hsinchu, took place on April 29.

In total, the 10-year Coast Guard modernization plan provides for the construction of 141 ships of various types from 2018 to 2027, including four 4,000-ton patrol ships, six 1,000-ton patrol ships, twelve 600-ton patrol ships, fifteen 100-ton patrol boats, 52 patrol boats with a displacement of 35 tons and 50 small boats. Their total cost will exceed 100 billion rubles. tyv. ($3.3 billion). According to the CSBC, five 100-ton ships have already been transferred to the Coast Guard, and six 1000-ton patrol ships are under construction.
