Moscow. May 21. INTERFAX-Two submarines of the project 636.3 "Varshavyanka" will be laid for the Pacific Fleet by the end of the year, Fleet Commander Sergei Avakyants said.
"Recently, the third submarine of the Magadan series was launched. The fourth ship under construction, the Ufa, is also in a high state of readiness. Two more will be laid this year. Taking into account the pace of construction, we plan to receive all six of these submarines by 2024, "Avakyants said in an interview with the Russian Defense Ministry's Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
According to him, the first two submarines of the series - "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" and "Volkhov" - will arrive at the fleet this summer.
"These submarines are capable of carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, and they will significantly strengthen the combat potential of the fleet," the admiral said.
Project 636.3 submarines are equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles (developed by the Novator Design Bureau, Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region). In 2016, the construction of the first six diesel-electric submarines of the project for the Russian Black Sea Fleet was completed. Currently, a series of such submarines is being built for the Pacific Fleet.
Submarines of the project 636.3 of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation participated in the military operation in Syria.
