Moscow. May 19. INTERFAX-The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) is ready to build diesel submarines for the Russian Baltic Fleet, which, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov, is planned to be strengthened.

"Admiralty Shipyards, which are part of the USC, are ready to build diesel-electric submarines of projects 636.3 and 677 for the Baltic Fleet, "the USC press service told Interfax on Wednesday.

A representative of the corporation said that the shipyard currently has a contract for the construction of six Project 636.3 submarines for the Pacific Fleet, as well as for the construction of four project 677 submarines, the duty station of which will be determined by the customer.

"USC is ready to continue the series of both projects by the decision of the Ministry of Defense under the new state armament program," the press service said.

The Russian Baltic Fleet will receive new diesel submarines against the backdrop of NATO's strengthening in the region, Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Nikolai Evmenov said on May 18.

"The issue of equipping the Baltic Fleet with diesel-electric submarines, new aircraft and coastal complexes has been worked out. The underwater component of the Baltic Fleet will correspond to the scope of the tasks that the fleet faces, " Evmenov said in a telegram on the occasion of the Baltic Fleet Day, which is celebrated on May 18.

"The Baltic Fleet remains the most important tool for ensuring Russia's security in the western direction. The role of the Baltic Fleet is now becoming even more important due to the new challenges and threats arising from the expansion of NATO's presence in the Baltic region in close proximity to the borders of the Russian Federation," Yevmenov said, quoted by the Information Department of the Russian Defense Ministry.

A source in the industry told Interfax on May 18 that Baltflot may receive diesel submarines of projects 636.3 "Varshavyanka" or 677 "Lada". "The decision is up to the navy," the source said.

The Project 636.3 (Varshavyanka) submarines are equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles (developed by the Novator Design Bureau, Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region). In 2016, the construction of the first six diesel-electric submarines of the project for the Russian Black Sea Fleet was completed. Currently, a series of such submarines is being built for the Pacific Fleet.

Submarines of the project 636.3 of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation participated in the military operation in Syria.

Tactical and technical characteristics of submarines of the project 636.3: autonomous navigation-45 days, the maximum depth of immersion-300 meters, the range of diving at an economical speed-400 miles, the range of navigation in the RDP mode with an enhanced fuel reserve at a speed of 7 knots, - 7 500 miles, the number of torpedo tubes-6. The speed of underwater travel - 18 knots. Crew - 52 people.

The Project 677 Lada submarines were developed at the end of the last century. The lead submarine "Saint Petersburg" was laid down in 1997, transferred to the Navy in 2010 and sent for trial operation to the Northern Fleet. The submarines of this project "Kronstadt" and "Velikiye Luki" were laid down in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

"Kronshtadt" and "Velikiye Luki", which will be equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, are scheduled to be delivered on November 25, 2021, according to the Kremlin materials for the trip of Russian President Vladimir Putin to St. Petersburg in November 2019.

In November 2019, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy said that the need for submarines of the project 677 "Lada" remains.

"Having one series and one project (of non-nuclear submarines-IF) is like having one pair of shoes. They were soaked, and that was all. The need for the project 677 remains, but it will be clarified and formed based on the results of the operation of the first ships of the project," the commander - in-chief said, noting the fleet's interest in the construction of submarines of the project 636.3.

Project 677 submarines are designed to combat enemy submarines and surface ships, protect naval bases, the sea coast and sea communications, as well as launch a missile attack on enemy coastal targets.
