OPUK LANDFILL (Crimea), 22 Apr-RIA Novosti. More than 2 thousand servicemen and 60 pieces of military equipment landed during large interspecific exercises in the Crimea, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Thursday.

The maneuvers began today at the Opuk training ground-more than 10 thousand military personnel, 1.2 thousand pieces of equipment, as well as 40 warships are involved.

"40 Il-76MD aircraft were involved in the landing. The crews of the military transport aviation performed the flight in a single formation order at intervals and distances of 300 meters by 3 kilometers between the aircraft, and when performing the landing drop, the lateral and longitudinal intervals were reduced. The release of airborne units and equipment was carried out from a height of 600 meters in a difficult wind regime, " the military department said.

The military transport aircraft were covered by Su-27 fighters, which isolated the landing areas. Control of the air formation was carried out from the board of the A-50U and Il-22-SURT long-range radar detection aircraft.

After landing, the personnel destroyed the imaginary enemy and captured the objects, firing small arms, grenade launchers and rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers RPO-A "Bumblebee".

"All personnel were in a single information field, the commanders carried out control by means of automation. This made it possible to increase the combat capabilities of the weapons and military equipment of the landing units and ensure the completion of the task in a shorter time, " the military department explained.

The actions of the airborne forces were supported by a self-propelled artillery battery equipped with 2S9-1M "Nona" guns.

"The creation of a reconnaissance and fire complex of artillery has reduced the time for performing fire tasks, provided the ability to adjust the fire in an automated mode and allowed real-time monitoring and evaluation of the results of firing, increased the effectiveness of fire damage," the Ministry of Defense explained.

The exercises are conducted as part of a control check for the winter training period. It is carried out in all military districts and in the Northern Fleet, including the regions of the Far North, the Kuril Islands and Kamchatka.
