Five Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft of the Pacific Fleet worked out the destruction of submarines of the imaginary enemy, which managed to get close to the coast of Kamchatka, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
The planes took to the air, located the targets and tracked them using onboard anti-submarine systems. Il-38 checked the water area of the Avacha Bay at low and extremely low altitudes.
"In a given area, the planes detected and attacked a special simulated underwater target from the air with depth charges. The crews used about 50 practical aviation training bombs, " the ministry said in a statement.
In addition, the IL-38 directly from the air installed minefields to prevent the deployment of ships and the action of submarines of the imaginary enemy.
Earlier, on April 9, it was reported that the Russian Marines in the framework of the exercise broke through the defense of the imaginary enemy and landed on the unequipped coast in Kamchatka. The combat swimmers, supported by Ka-29 and Mi-8AMTSh helicopters, managed to clear mines and capture the coastal strip before the main forces arrived.
Earlier, on April 6, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry, Sergei Shoigu, announced that the Armed Forces had begun control checks for the winter training period, which will include more than four thousand tactical, tactical-special and bilateral exercises. It was reported that in April it is planned to hold more than 4 thousand exercises of various scales, of which 812 are bilateral, at 101 training grounds and 520 objects of the training and material base.
