During the factory sea trials, the Vsevolod Bobrov logistics support vessel was tested by towing a vessel of equal displacement. The operation in the Gulf of Finland lasted four hours.
Sea trials will last about a month, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The delivery team of the Northern Shipyard and the crew will have to check the operation of the main power plant, other systems, cranes and winches in open sea conditions. The start of the state tests of the Vsevolod Bobrov is scheduled for April.
This vessel is the second one built according to the project 23120. The lead "Elbrus" became part of the Northern Fleet in 2018, and the following year it circumnavigated the world with a detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet led by the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov". Based on the results of the operation of the Elbrus, the project 23120 was finalized: communication and navigation systems, deck functionality were improved.
Logistics support vessels of this type are designed to deliver cargo, conduct hydrographic research, and provide assistance to ships in distress. The ice-class hull allows them to work in ice up to 0.6 meters thick, and the crane equipment can be unloaded at unequipped berths and in the open sea. The list of tasks of support vessels also includes towing.
"Vsevolod Bobrov" is named after the famous football player and hockey player, Olympic champion, the only athlete in the history of the Olympic Games, who was the captain of the national team in both sports.
