The Baltic Fleet corvette Stoyky and the tanker Kola, which are on a long cruise, completed the passage of the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean Sea after navigation in this blocked water corridor was restored.
As reported in the information support department of the press service of the Far Eastern Military District for the Baltic Fleet, now the Russian warship and tanker have set a course for the port of Tartus of the Syrian Arab Republic. There, the crews will replenish water and food supplies in the coming days, carry out scheduled preventive inspections of the ships and rest.
Since February, the Stoyky and Kola, with anti-terror groups on board, have been on anti-piracy watch in the Gulf of Aden, escorting ships. The crew of the " Stoyky "in the Indian Ocean worked out several dozen exercises of various directions, including maneuvers on anti-aircraft and anti-submarine defense.
The Russian navy also made business calls in the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman. While in the Red Sea, a detachment of ships made their first business call at the port of Sudan.
On the approach to the Suez Canal, "Cola" was almost injured in an incident: on March 23, in the Gulf of Suez, the naval cargo ship "Ark Royal" under the flag of Barbados violated the rules of navigation and allowed a bulk on the aft part of the tanker. No one was injured on the tanker, there was no fuel spill, and the Cola continued to move. The captain of the ship" Ark Royal", who pleaded guilty, declared a maritime protest.
