The external rubber coating of the submarines allows you to effectively suppress your own noise and external sonar signals
CHEBOKSARY, March 25. /TASS/. Cheboksary Production Association named after V. I. Chapaev (the company is part of the "Technodinamika" of the state Corporation "Rostec" ) in May will begin production of upgraded hydroacoustic coating for strategic nuclear submarines "Borey-A", Deputy General Director of the company for rubber production Sergey Sandalov told reporters.
"Two new unique coatings have been developed for the Borey-A and Yasen submarine projects. For Ash Trees, the coating was put into production in 2014. For Borey-A, the upgraded coating is now being put into production, the launch date is in May 2021, " he said.
The external rubber coating of Russian submarines is designed to reduce their visibility and effectively suppress their own noise and external sonar signals.
Sandalov explained that the coating of submarines consists of individual plates weighing up to 80 kilograms. Each plate is made of several layers of rubber and contains special channels for absorbing acoustic waves. The plates are attached externally to the light hull of the submarine with a sealant and are additionally fixed with screws (bonks). Then paint is applied.
CHPO named after V. I. Chapaev is the only enterprise in Russia that produces hydroacoustic coating for all types of domestic submarines on a full technological cycle. The production of coatings for submarines was established in 1968. From 2003 to 2020, it was completely modernized for the production of hydroacoustic coatings for submarines of generations 4 and 4+.
