Moscow. March 17. INTERFAX-The heavy flamethrower system of the new generation TOS-2 ("Tosochka") is expected to enter service with the Russian army this year, said the head of the radiation, biological and chemical (RCB) protection troops of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Kirillov.
"In 2021, in the interests of the RCB protection troops, it is planned to complete the development, adopt the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and supply the troops with new models for the successful implementation of the entire range of tasks of the RCB protection, "Kirillov said in an interview with the departmental newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.
Among these samples, he named the heavy flamethrower system TOS-2 on the wheeled base chassis "Ural" and new unguided rockets of increased range for the systems TOS-1A and TOS-2.
Currently, the armed forces of the RCB protection are heavy flamethrower systems TOS-1 " Pinocchio "and TOS-1A"Solntsepek". The latter was used by government forces during the armed conflict in Syria. TOS-1A "Solntsepek" - a more modern system, developed in 2001 on the chassis of the T-72 tank.
"Solntsepek" operates in the battle formations of supported troops from open and closed positions. Targets are destroyed with the massive use of unguided rockets in thermobaric and smoke-burning equipment.
In November last year, Kirillov said that the new TOS-2 is being tested in the military.
TOS-2 was used by the Russian military in the fall of 2020 during the strategic maneuvers "Caucasus-2020", confirmed the requirements imposed on it, Kirillov said.
In February of this year, the state corporation "Rostec" reported that the military division of PJSC "Motovilikhinskiye Zavody" and the NGO "SPLAV" named after A. Ganichev started preparing the TOS-2 combat vehicle for state tests.
"The work is being carried out within the framework of the state defense order for 2021. Based on the results of the tests, a decision will be made on the timing of putting the flamethrower system into service," the press service of the state corporation said at the time.
The developer of the TOS-2 is the NGO "Splav" named after A. Ganichev.
"Our main task was to make the system more mobile and increase the efficiency of combat missions. "Tosochka" can work both with old rockets that were used in the "Sun", and with a number of new ammunition. "Rostec" then reported that the TOS-2 is installed on the wheeled chassis of the Ural car with increased cross-country capability, has an increased firing range, automated systems for aiming, firing and fire control. In addition, the heavy flamethrower is equipped with a crane-manipulator and does not need a transport-loading machine.
