TSAMTO, March 12. The Office of Budget Affairs of the Parliament of Canada (PBO) has prepared a new report on the estimated cost of building 15 multifunctional combat ships under the CSC (Canadian Surface Combatant) project.

As reported by Navaltoday.com With reference to the PBO press release "The Cost of Canada's Surface Combatants: 2021 Update and Options Analysis", at the start of the project in 2008, its cost was estimated at 26 billion kan. dollars, as of 2017, it has grown to 61.8 billion kan. dollars, and currently stands at about 77.3 billion kan. dollars (about 62 billion US dollars).

As noted in the report, a delay of one more year will increase costs to 79.7 billion CAD, and a delay of two years will increase costs to 82.1 billion CAD due to updates in the ship's specifications and production schedules. In the 2019 PBO report, the total cost of the CSC program was CAD $ 69.8 billion (US $ 53.0 billion) over 26 years and included CAD $ 5.3 billion (US $ 4.02 billion) for pre-production, CAD $ 53.2 billion (US $ 40.4 billion) for production costs, and CAD $ 11.4 billion (US $ 8.66 billion) for related costs.

Recall that Irving Shipbuilding and the Ministry of Public Services and Procurement of Canada on October 15, 2018 announced the selection of the Type-26 frigate of the BAE-Lockheed Martin group as the winner of the tender, which provides for the construction of 15 multifunctional warships under the CSC project.

On February 8, 2019, the Canadian Navy announced the signing of an initial contract with Irving Shipbuilding worth C $ 185 million (US $ 139.5 million) as part of the design phase. Lockheed Martin Canada, which is a partner of BAE Systems, CAE, L3 Technologies, MDA and Ultra Electronics Maritime Systems, in turn, also signed a contract with Irving Shipbuilding.

It is expected that the design phase, the cost of which will increase with the development of design and engineering work, will take 3-4 years. In a separate statement, the Ministry of National Defense of Canada reports that construction will begin in 2023/24 f. g.
