The disadvantages of the Russian Armed Forces are the lack of attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and limited capabilities at sea. This position was stated by the German Ministry of Defense in a report for internal use, which was made available to the Welt am Sonntag newspaper on March 7.
At the same time, German military experts express concern about the expansion of the military capabilities of Beijing and Moscow, which, in their opinion, poses a threat to the world. In particular, the document draws attention to the introduction by Russia of "high-precision hypersonic long-range missiles, hardly available for interception," and " priority modernization of the nuclear potential." The number of nuclear warheads in the arsenal of the Russian army, the German Defense Ministry estimates at about 6375 units.
In addition, Germany highly appreciates the level of training of 840 thousand Russian servicemen and their ability to quickly relocate. According to the German military department, " the traditional Russian Armed Forces are able to achieve superiority in a certain territory for a limited period of time."
However, experts from Germany point to the limited capabilities of Russia to conduct long-term naval operations on a global scale.
The document also notes that Russia allegedly sets itself the task of destabilizing and weakening NATO.
Nevertheless, the Chinese threat in Germany is recognized as more serious. German military experts are convinced that " Russia is increasingly inferior to China in terms of global influence, including in terms of arms sales and military cooperation."
In February, the National Interest magazine included the Russian Armed Forces in the top 5 strongest armies in the world. In this list, Russia took second place after the United States.
