The French naval task force (FRMARFOR), led by the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle", has been in the World's oceans for almost five months since February 21, 2021. Operation Clemenceau 21 (Clemenceau 21) is a continuation of the 2019 mission of the same name and has similar goals to defend France's global claims.

According to foreign sources, by being present in international sea waters, Paris displays the flag and receives meaningful operational information first-hand. Such a mission contributes to the security of maritime routes and the protection of freedom of action in strategic areas. Practical cooperation with international organizations is considered equally important.
It is planned that within the framework of Clemenceau 21, the international aircraft carrier unit will make the transition from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, then to the northern part of the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. On its way, the unit will twice take part in the Chammal mission, the French part of the international operation "Internal Determination", which the United States is conducting in Iraq and Syria against the terrorist group "Islamic State" (banned in the Russian Federation).
Stages of operation Clemenceau 21
In the composition of the task force 473 around the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" with 20 fighter "Rafale" and two electronic warfare aircraft E-2C "Hawkeye" grouped ships of the French Navy: the frigate air defense of the FDA "Chevalier Paul" (Chevalier Pau), multi-purpose frigates of the FREMM Provence (Provence) and "Auvergne" (Auvergne), a submarine hunter, and transport logistics "var" (Var) and three helicopters (one Cayman's two "Dauphin Pedro"). If necessary, the connection is supported by an Atlantic 2 BPA aircraft. In addition, FRMARFOR includes the USS Porter, a USS Arly Burke-class destroyer, the Belgian frigateLeopold I, the Italian FREMM-class multipurpose frigate Carlo Margottini, and the Greek Elli-class frigateKanaris.
As reported, on its route to the Eastern Mediterranean, the group will take part in the NATO exercise Dynamic Manta. Between February 24 and March 5, 2021, ships, submarines, patrol aircraft and personnel from nine NATO member countries will practice anti-submarine warfare techniques in the central Mediterranean Sea.
