Moscow. February 19. INTERFAX-The reconnaissance and fire capabilities of the Airborne troops will be increased by the formation of units of unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic warfare, said the Deputy Commander of the Airborne Forces, Major General Anatoly Kontsevoy.
"In order to further increase the combat strength of the troops, electronic warfare companies, companies and platoons of unmanned aerial vehicles will be formed in 2021. This will seriously increase the total combat potential of the Airborne Forces, " Kontsevoy said in an interview published by the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper on Friday.
He noted that "the continued improvement reconnaissance and firing capabilities compounds by optimizing the composition of forces and means of reconnaissance and destruction, the completion of units of unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic warfare".
The general also said that last year, an experiment on the formation of "new type" formations was completed, " which confirmed the effectiveness of the use of amphibious assault formations on helicopters."
"As practice has shown, due to their high air mobility, they are able to conduct highly maneuverable actions over a large space and perform tasks in various physical and geographical conditions. In the future, it is planned to create a "new type" of amphibious assault battalions in all amphibious assault brigades and regiments, " Kontsevoy said.
He stressed that an important role in improving the quality of the Airborne forces is played by the development and improvement of weapons, military and special equipment.
"In accordance with the Concept of development of weapons and equipment of the Airborne Forces, it is planned to create and adopt a unified, air-transportable and amphibious combat equipment on a single armored tracked and wheeled chassis. It is assumed that the airborne component will be equipped with tracked vehicles capable of parachuting on the base chassis of the BMD-4M combat vehicle and the BTR-MDM armored personnel carrier. The amphibious assault component is planned to be equipped with a combat landing vehicle, a protected Typhoon-airborne vehicle and other special vehicles, " the general said.
Speaking about the automated control system (ACS) VDV, Kontsevoy said that it is now a mobile-stationary control system based on the control and communication tools developed within the automated control systems "Polet-K" and "Andromeda-D". The degree of automation of field control points with modern communication systems and automated control systems is as high as possible - all command posts (from the Airborne Forces command to the battalion inclusive) are equipped with sets of the Andromeda-D automated control system, the deputy commander said.
