The Sea of Okhotsk, Kamchatka and the Arctic coast of Russia will be covered by the latest missile corvette "Agile". This is the second ship of Project 20385. It is equipped with cruise missiles, an ultra-long-range anti-aircraft system and a powerful radar capable of detecting targets hundreds of kilometers away.
The area of responsibility of the corvette will be the Bering Strait, Chukotka and the north-eastern coast. With the commissioning of the new ship, navigation along the Northern Sea Route will become safer, experts say.
As sources in the military department told Izvestia, the principal decision on the placement of the corvette "Agile" was made. It will be part of the Joint Command of Forces in the North-East of Russia and will be based in Kamchatka. The ship has already been built and is now preparing for mooring tests. Its crew is formed from the military personnel of the 114th brigade of the protection of the water region and began to master the ship.
It is expected that by the end of this year, the corvette will be transferred to the fleet and will begin service on the north-eastern borders of the country. It is possible that these terms will be shifted.
"Agile" is the second representative of the series. The lead ship of the project 20385 "Gremyashchy" was transferred to the fleet on December 29 last year. Then the commander-in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, noted that the first corvette would be relocated to the place of service in the Pacific Fleet. And in total, according to the admiral, in the future, six more corvettes will be built and sent to the Pacific Fleet.
