Moscow. February 6. The Northern Fleet, together with the Russian Geographical Society (RGS), is preparing a new Arctic expedition to search for and survey warships and submarines that sank during the Great Patriotic War, the press service of the Russian Federation reported.
"The expedition will be conducted in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas in the period from February to September 2021. It will involve hydrographic vessels and boats of the Northern Fleet, as well as the icebreaker Ilya Muromets, the multifunctional logistics support vessel Elbrus, and ships of the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous forces, "the press service of the SF said.
They noted that in the course of the complex expedition, it is planned to conduct a further examination of several ships and vessels that were lost or sunk during the Great Patriotic War in the Barents Sea.
"It is planned to search for the Soviet submarines M-122, M-175, the hydrographic vessel Meridian, as well as to study the sites of a number of former minefields, in particular the Bantos-A, for possible identification of dead ships there, "the press service said.
The main tasks of this expedition in the Northern Fleet are considered to be "performing high-precision survey of the bottom relief, updating navigational charts, manuals and manuals for navigation, mastering new equipment and modern methods of work, performing research within the framework of military-historical work, perpetuating the memory of sailors - defenders of the Fatherland".
