The issues of additional supplies of hypersonic and high-precision long-range weapons were discussed at a meeting held by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at the Military-Industrial Corporation NPO Mashinostroeniya JSC in Reutov near Moscow on Friday, February 5.
"The issue of developing high-precision long-range weapons and equipping the Armed Forces with them is under special control of the President of Russia. In April, it is necessary to report to the head of state on what is being done in this direction," Shoigu said.
He added that based on the calculations of the General Staff, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, "work has been organized on additional purchases of hypersonic and high-precision long-range weapons."
The Minister noted that the meeting will discuss proposals on sources of financing, as well as the state of production capacities of the industry for the implementation of the procurement task.
Then the meeting was continued in a closed mode for the press.
NPO Mashinostroeniya, which is part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, is a Russian developer and manufacturer of rocket weapons and space technology.
According to media reports, the company has developed a hypersonic missile "Zircon", which is designed to arm multi-purpose nuclear submarines "Ash-M" and "Husky", as well as surface ships. NAPO also developed and produces the Avangard hypersonic combat system, the rocket of which develops a speed of about Mach 27.
Last December, Russian President Vladimir Putin held an extended meeting of the Defense Ministry board. He stressed that the agency effectively fulfilled all the tasks in 2020, despite the coronavirus pandemic.
The Russian leader instructed the ministry to focus on solving five main tasks, one of which is the development of non-nuclear deterrence forces, primarily high-precision weapons.
