As part of the 24th "animal" division of the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet of Russia, there are nuclear submarines (submarines) "Panther", "Boar" and "Cheetah" of the project 971, capable of discreetly monitoring the actions of the US Navy (Navy), says TASS columnist Dmitry Litovkin.
According to the author, the submarines made from ordinary ship's rolled products are distinguished by low noise, achieved thanks to the machines purchased in the 1980s by the Japanese corporation Toshiba. "Thanks to them, the production of shaft lines and propellers has reached a completely different technological level. In response, the Japanese received sanctions from the US State Department for their inability to trade, " the observer writes.
Litovkin recalls that in the coming years, the "animals" will gather almost in full force. So, in 2021, the Leopard submarine will return to service, in 2022-the Tiger, in 2023-the Wolf. "The preservation of the grouping of these submarines in the Navy significantly expands Russia's ability to ensure its own security in long-distance maritime communications," the author writes.
In January, The National Interest magazine wrote that the Project 1144 Orlan heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov poses a threat to the NATO Navy, while at the same time proving to be "an extremely attractive target, especially for submarines."
