Turkish defense company Lapis Havacılık has opened a factory in Ankara for the serial production of unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to the Anadolu agency, Lapis Havacılık has been developing unmanned aircraft since 2015.
The new enterprise, with an area of 3,500 square meters, based on the territory of the capital's technopark, has introduced modern technologies, which will contribute to minimizing the country's dependence on weapons imports.
The main activities of Lapis Havacılık are: design and production of aircraft, development of flight control algorithms. The company produces various modifications of UAVs.
Osman Sevgi, Head of the Management Board of Lapis Havacılık, said that in 2015 the company produced only a limited number of products. However, today, five years later, we are talking about the serial production of UAVs.
"The decision to build the factory was made in February 2020. At the new factory, first of all, serial production of the Lap 60 multi-rotor drone has been established. The first production drones will come off the assembly line in February. All components of the Lap 60 and VTOL drones will be manufactured in the country. Everything necessary for this, including the equipment, has already been purchased, " Sevgi said.
