The Nevsky Design Bureau has started developing a floating airfield for the Arctic region.
Studies of the architectural and structural appearance of floating airfields and islands are being carried out, TASS writes with reference to the materials of the Design Bureau dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the enterprise. These platforms can be used to support the work of military, rescue and transport aircraft in the Arctic, perform other tasks of the Ministry of Defense, and develop new gas fields.
Floating airfields provide all-weather operation of aviation in the Arctic, fending off the longitudinal and transverse pitching of the platform during takeoffs and landings, the PKB noted.
The Nevsky Design Bureau is the only developer of aircraft carriers and training complexes for them in Russia. The Soviet aircraft-carrying cruisers of the Condor, Kiev and Krechet types, as well as the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov, were designed here.
